Harriet Beecher Stowe Center
When you visit the Stowe Center, don’t expect a traditional historic house museum! Expect a conversational, interactive tour where you can participate along with your guide.
Of course you’ll hear about everything that compelled Stowe to write her most famous novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin: her childhood, travels, marriage and family, and perhaps greatest of all, her courage.
But you’ll also connect the past to the present as you discuss 19th century social issues — such as slavery and the role of women — that resonate today in the form of racism, mass incarceration, immigration or equal pay.
Discover Harriet Beecher Stowe…
…internationally known icon of American literature, culture and social activism. Stowe’s bestselling anti-slavery novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin changed American’s views on slavery and contributed to the outbreak of the Civil War.
School Groups:
Help your students connect history to their own lives and today’s headlines. Tour Stowe’s Hartford home, a National Historic Landmark, and participate in extended learning programs where ideas turn into action.
All school programs support Common Core Learning Standards and the Connecticut Social Studies Framework.
Guided tours and programs are open to K-12 students. Programs can be adapted for college level students. Available year round by advance reservation.
Can’t make it to Hartford? Bring the Stowe Center to your classroom! A museum educator will engage your class in an open-ended conversation about Stowe’s life and work using primary source documents, photographs and a writing activity.
Programs at your site
Let the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center bring an engaging, interactive 90-minute program to your library, civic group or community center.
The Family Tour

The David M. Hunt Library in Falls Village, CT welcomes children of all ages for programs, story time or just to hang out in our beautiful library. On Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 am our children’s librarian Rita Delgado offers story hour with a craft and a snack. Tuesdays are for our younger friends, 2 to 4 years of age, while Thursdays have stories of older kids, 3 to 5 years of age.
Dental Care Kids
At Dental Care Kids we believe strongly that children are very precious. Our experienced staff of pediatric dentists, orthodontists and hygienists chose to make a career in pediatric dentistry out of a love for children and the desire to see their beautiful smiles every day.
Our office environment and practices are designed to make a trip to the dentist as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. A child with a positive impression of visits to the dental office is much more likely to receive the care he or she needs to maintain good dental health. At Dental Care Kids, we are building the foundation for a lifetime of healthy teeth.
In addition to our highly skilled staff of Pediatric specialists and our kid-friendly environment, Dental Care Kids employs the latest technology to provide the highest possible standard of care.
Low-Dose Digital X-rays are much safer for your child than traditional X-rays, emitting up to 75% less radiation. There’s no sacrifice in effectiveness, in fact the digital X-rays have the advantage of brightness and contrast manipulation, allowing our dentists to see your child’s teeth down to the finest detail.
Every parent hopes that their child will go through life without having many of the problems that they suffered with. That certainly includes cavities and unpleasant associations with the dentist. Call to make your appointment today to see why one little girl asked, “Mommy, is this really a dentist? It’s amazing!”
Our office, as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends that your child visit the dentist by his/her 1st birthday. You can make the first visit to the dentist enjoyable and positive. Your child should be informed of the visit and told that the dentist and their staff will explain all procedures and answer any questions. The less to-do concerning the visit, the better.
It is best if you refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear, such as “needle”, “shot”, “pull”, “drill” or “hurt”. The office makes a practice of using words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to the child.
There is much to be learned at the new patient visit, as well as follow up visits, for both the child and parent so we like the parents to come into the examination room with the child most of the time. Sometimes we will encourage younger siblings to come as well so they can see how well their big brother or sister does. If our pediatric doctors think it is in the child’s best interest for the parent to stay outside the examining room for some of the time, we ask your cooperation in advance.

CURTAIN CALL has been voted BEST LOCAL THEATRE GROUP ten years in a row in Fairfield County Weekly’s Annual Readers’ Poll, BEST LOCAL THEATRE by StamfordPlus magazine for eleven years in a row, and has received The 2011 Governor’s Award for Excellence in Culture and Tourism and the 2016 ACE Award for Excellence in the Arts. Year-round productions are presented by and for area residents in our Kweskin Theatre and Dressing Room Theatre: musicals, dramas, comedies, concert events, interactive murder mysteries, PLUS…summer Shakespeare on the Green and our Summer Youth Theatre program for participants entering grade four thru age twenty-one.
THEATRE ARTS CLASSES OFFERED FALL WINTER AND SPRING: Eight-week sessions run after school, evenings and weekends in acting for the stage, TV and film, comedy, improv, musical theatre, dance and more for kids ages five and up, teens and adults! (During Covid-19, Curtain Call has been offering online classes and as of this Winter 2021, in-person classes have begun their return.) Information is available at https://www.curtaincallinc.com/workshop/, email brian@curtaincallinc.com or call 203-329-8207.
FULL-DAY SUMMER CURRICULUMS: Our SUMMERSTOCK (Grade 6 to 12) and SUMMERSTOCK JUNIOR (Grade K to 5) programs are full-day, conservatory-style programs where students hone creative, performance and social skills. No previous experience is required and registration is on a first come, first serve basis. There are four separate, two-week sessions that run Monday thru Friday and can accommodate a maximum of 40 students each session. Students are then divided into age-appropriate groups for class rotations between three instructors, each specializing in their own area of study. A lunch and snack break will be part of the daily schedule. Students will need to bring their own lunch/snack and water bottles.
Each SUMMERSTOCK and SUMMERSTOCK JUNIOR session culminates in a showcase of student work. (This summer, our showcases may be recorded as opposed to live performances.)
Students participating in our Creative Theatre and Musical Theatre programs for Grades 6 to 12 must be fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated means that the student must have had their second dose of an FDA or WHO approved two dose COVID-19 vaccine, OR have had their single dose of an FDA or WHO approved single dose COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start of the class. Students of this age range in particular have been hoping for the opportunity to further their creative development by being able to explore and respond to the use of facial expression, and to advance their stage-speaking skills unhindered by masks (if possible). The only way to to offer this safely (should circumstances allow) is by having all students in those programs fully vaccinated.
For students participating in our Junior programs for Grades K to 5, full vaccination is not required, but at present, students may need to wear masks indoors and in situations where safe social-distancing cannot be maintained. We will have access to outdoor areas of the property where students may unmask while being properly spaced. As this age range is not being vaccinated at as quick a rate as students twelve and older, we feel we cannot make full vaccination a requirement at this time. Our curriculum will focus on vocal projection, movement and using the body to create character, and express intention and emotion.
Program session information and dates can be found below:
Summerstock Creative Theatre: June 27 to July 8, 2022. Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 4:30pm (no class July 4). For students entering grades 6 thru 12. Improv, Shakespeare and Modern Acting.

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo
Connecticut Trolley Museum
The Connecticut Electric Railway Association, Inc. is the owner and operator of the Connecticut Trolley Museum. Founded in October 1940, it is the nation’s oldest incorporated organization dedicated to the preservation of the trolley era.
As a non-profit institution, its educational and historical aim is the establishment of a full scale operating street and interurban railroad system with the appropriate accessory equipment and buildings, to recreate an important phase of New England’s business and social life from 1890 to 1949.
A three-mile round trip streetcar ride with an educational narrative is provided to the museum’s visitors during their visit. All work at the museum, except for one paid employee in the museum office, is done by volunteers. There are over 70 pieces or rail equipment owned by the museum, some of them dating as far back as 1869. This collection is made up of passenger and freight streetcars, elevated railway cars, interurban cars, service cars, locomotives (diesel and electric), passenger and freight railroad cars, and other pieces of miscellaneous railway equipment.
All major buildings and the museum’s center of operations are located on a 17-acre facility adjacent to State Route 140 in East Windsor. The right of way is a 3.2-mile portion of the Rockville branch of the Hartford & Springfield Street Railway Company. Void of all track, the property was purchased when the organization was formed in 1940. Over the years, the volunteers have been able to build not only 1.5 miles of track and the associated overhead wire for power distribution, but all of the yard and storage track, the power substation, the storage barns, and a restoration shop.
Our mission is to provide a historically accurate educational experience of the trolley era, through the interpretation, preservation, restoration, and operation of an electric railway.

CDS offers a nurturing, disciplined environment where students and their parents fall in love with dance for life.
Connecticut Dance School is dedicated to the highest traditions of teaching classical ballet. Proper technique, musicality, and discipline are emphasized throughout all classes. Students are trained at age-appropriate levels, a critical element in building dancers’ skill and self-esteem. This gradual process helps train younger students in the artistry and discipline necessary to excel in classical ballet.
It is said that performance is all about sharing one’s love of dance. In class, the emphasis is on learning new material and perfecting technique. In the theater, we take what we’ve learned in the studio and share it with the audience. Performance is what dance is all about and, at Connecticut Dance School, consummate performance is the goal for every dancer.

“I have two daughters who dance at CDC, they are both there six days a week for many hours each day. The excellent teaching staff, performance opportunities, outside workshops and exposure to the dance world are invaluable. Most importantly, however, they have made life-long friends and truly feel that CDC is their second home and family

Children’s Adventure Center
Our History
The Children’s Adventure Center was established in Newtown in 1969 by a group of concerned community leaders, as a non-profit organization, to provide early childhood education for local families. The Center is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected annually. Bjorn the Magician
Kids Party Magician Provides Custom Magic Shows
My magic show is non-stop, age appropriate comedy magic. My balloon show amazes people at what can be built from balloons. I typically do birthday parties, school shows, Blue/Gold banquets, YMCA/YWCA camps and the like. Whether its a birthday party, a banquet, or a school, you will hear the children laughing and see them grinning continuously. One highlight of the show is my rabbit puppet who is convinced HE is really in charge of the show. Every child squeals with delight at the appearance of my REAL RABBIT, Wilbur, who knows HE is the real star. All the children love to participate as they help the elusive Hiram hide from the poor magician. For birthday parties, I customize the show to the age of the participants. The show for the 3-5 year old audience is different from that for the 6-9 year old crowd. In addition, I have a workshop aimed at older children. The workshop teaches both how to do a series of tricks AND how to present them. Frequently people at schools and churches wonder if I have more than shows that compliment what they are teaching. I am happy to say that I do. I currently have a set of shows whose topics include, but are not limited to my: Anti-Bullying show Safety show, Dental Hygiene show, Lean Green Eating Machine (Healthy eating) show, Self Esteem show, I love America show, as well as Holiday theme shows for Halloween, Christmas, etc.

Make Planning Children’s Parties Easy and Worry Free Performances to Entertain and Connect with the Audience
Why do you need a kids party entertainer when hiring a childrens party magician for your childrens party?
When you have a large number of children at a birthday party expecting entertainment, they can become very excited. If that entertainment does not happen quickly enough, then the children may grow bored, or begin to entertain themselves. That might not be entertaining for the other kids or their parents.
You need a kids party entertainer who is able to connect with the children and capture their attention with zany magic tricks, hilarious stories, and incredible puppetry. When I produce a real live magician’s bunny, the children laugh and applaud, and focus on him for a long time.
Our kids party magic shows delight children and give the parents some time to relax a little because we are entertaining both the children and the parents. It also gives you the opportunity to take some great photos your guests enjoying your kids birthday party show.

American Colleges of Kombido
The goal of KOMBIDO is to provide the individual with a path to develop their own ability to defend themselves and the ability to strengthen their mind, body, and spirit. KOMBIDO is literally the “way of combination”. The combination is not simply a combination of Judo, Karate, Kung Fu, and Tai Chi but instead is a combination of martial arts fundamentals such as stance, blocks, strikes, and foot maneuvers along with strategic timing, distancing, entering, trapping, and take downs. The focus is on combining an individuals skills with an ever expanding learned skill set to provide them with an effective and efficient form of self defense. The goal is also to help the individual find balance through practice and wisdom.
KOMBIDO provides the student with physical balance through stance and foot maneuver practice as well as partner practice. Mental balance is achieved as the student learns how to make proper self defense decisions in a short period of time. Finally, spiritual balance is achieved as we discern right from wrong while freeing ourselves from the chains of doubt, fear, disbelief, and low self esteem.
KOMBIDO is also the combination of students willing to learn with the courage to try new things and the perseverance to overcome the challenges of learning physical skills that they are not used to.
In the end, KOMBIDO is a combination of all of these things – creating a family of martial artist that share their challenges, their victories, and their faith.

Sample Page
This is an example page. It’s different from a blog post because it will stay in one place and will show up in your site navigation (in most themes). Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this:
