First Visit by First Birthday
Thank you for taking the time to learn about the specialty of pediatric dentistry. A pediatric dentist is a specialist who is dedicated to the oral health care of children from infancy through young adulthood. Our goal is to meet both you and your child before that very special first birthday celebration! By starting dental care at an early age, our team can facilitate comfort in the dental setting for your family, and help to prevent future dental issues through anticipatory guidance.
When should my child see the dentist?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry has long recommended that children visit a pediatric dentist by the age of one, or upon eruption of the first tooth. Our team mission is to provide a lifetime of prevention and education from the first visit well into the teenage years. Our office employs the most reliable dental products available and utilizes techniques supported by the latest research.
What is a dental home?
By establishing a “dental home” for your child beginning with the first visit by age one, you have now established a place where you and your child are relaxed and comfortable prior to the possible occurrence of tooth injury as your increasingly mobile baby learns to walk. The age one dental visit serves as a relaxed hour where we share information on how to care for your child’s teeth. Our team is here to answer your possible questions about teething and developmental milestones, the appropriate type of fluoride, pacifier use and prolonged thumb sucking, and when to stop the nursing bottle…just to name a few! The relationship between diet and oral health and the prevention of traumatic injuries are important topics as well. In fact ANY question you may have is very important to us!
What’s Dr. Pat’s approach to treating my child?
Positive, Positive, Positive! We have a child-centered approach based on many combined years of experience both in pediatric dentistry and parenting. Our shared goal is to create an early-on team with you and your toddler in order to build a lifelong foundation of happy dental experiences.
