• Whitby School

Whitby School is an 18 month through Grade 8 private school in backcountry Greenwich serving students throughout Westchester and Fairfield County. Whitby inspires a passion for learning and empowers each child to take responsibility as an open-minded, principled citizen in a global community. A Whitby education is about allowing students to define success on their own terms by inspiring their love of learning, broadening their sense of responsibility, developing their critical thinking skills and empowering them to take action in a global community. These are the ideals that we value and they inform our teaching, learning and curriculum development each and every day. Here are nine reasons why Whitby is an inspirational learning environment for our students:   Learning at Whitby is tied to real-world concepts and issues, allowing students to challenge assumptions, think critically, acquire key skills and take action on their learning.   Whitby is the only school recognized the following three accrediting bodies: the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), the American Montessori Society (AMS)and the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS).   Inquiry-based learning is at the heart of our program. Our students’ questions spark their curiosity and then their curiosity leads to more questions and investment in their own learning journey.   Our student-centered classrooms move the focus of instruction away from teachers and back onto the students, helping students to deepen their understanding of their own strengths as learners and empowering them to love learning.   Yes academics are important, but equally important are the opportunities we provide to support our students’ social, emotional and physical needs.   Our teachers’ passion for learning is contagious. They find joy in the pursuit of their own professional growth, which translates into the kind of passion that inspires students to reach for new heights.   Our multi-teacher classrooms allow us to differentiate the instruction on a small group or even individual basis. We have an average 6:1 student – teacher ratio; the lowest ratio among our peer schools in Fairfield County.   Whitby’s population represents 27 countries, with more than 22 languages spoken. This means that our teachers don’t have to look very far to find parents willing to come in to share their global perspectives.   Community service is woven into curriculum through middle school, providing students with ample opportunities to develop empathy, humility and leadership skills.   Curious to learn more? • The Children’s Tree Montessori School

Founded in 1995, the Children’s Tree Montessori School offers authentic Montessori education to children from age 1 through 6th grade. In a nurturing, child-centered environment children can develop independence, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning. Children are respected and learn respect for themselves, others, and their environment. Students benefit from small classes, which are led by Montessori-certified teachers. In the “Nest”, toddlers ages 1-3 develop language, motor and life skills with the help of Montessori materials in a safe, clean and calm environment. In the preschool and Kindergarten classrooms, children ages 3-6 use hands-on materials to develop reading, writing and math skills at a young age, that set them up for success in elementary school. Elementary students work with an individualized curriculum based on their needs and abilities. This way children can learn ahead of their grade level in subjects they are especially talented in, instead of being held back and doing what everyone else is doing. CTMS provides children and their parents an alternative to public school education. Students come from all over – Old Saybrook, Clinton, Westbrook, Chester, Old Lyme, East Lyme, Essex and Middletown, to name a few.  Our school is more than just a building and teachers though–it is a community made up of all the different families who believe in a better form of educating our children.

    Landmark Preschool

Landmark Preschool is an independent day school serving children ages 1 – 5. Affiliated with Ridgefield Academy, Landmark has four campuses located in Bedford, NY (on the Village Green), Redding (Georgetown section), Ridgefield, and Westport. Landmark Preschool grew out of a belief that children benefit from a joyful introduction of learning. Our program embraces the whole child as we engage in purposeful learning experiences to support social, emotional, cognitive, and physiological development. We offer the kind of structure that gives children a sense of safety and security as they explore their world, with the flexibility that both encourages and empowers them to stretch themselves and develop as individuals. Our teachers are experts in early childhood education and development. We recognize that each child is unique. Our low student-to-teacher ratio allows our teachers to really get to know your child. The warm, personal connections help our teachers find the optimum way to support your child in all aspects of development during those all-important first five years. Landmark Preschool is accredited by Connecticut Association of Independent Schools.

    Asian Language School

At Asian Language School, we believe that learning a foreign language should be made fun and easy, especially for languages that use non-latin alphabets such as Chinese and Japanese. Our dedicated teachers and tailored teaching programs make it possible for young learners to enjoy studying the target language while developing their conversational fluency. We have a variety of programs to suit children of different ages and learning requirements. In general, our language programs are divided into elementary school program and middle & high school program. Our Chinese and Japanese classes are offered during school term periods as well as holiday periods. Students can learn 1-to-1, with other children in small group classes, or together with their siblings. We offer payment plans and tailored programs to cater to your needs. Since our Chinese and Japanese lessons are taught in virtual classrooms, young learners can conveniently learn at home even in the evening. Very young learners can be accompanied by adults to assist them in their first term of learning. Our lessons are available daily in the afternoon and evening to make choosing your preferred day and time easy. For best results, we recommend studying Chinese or Japanese steadily following term periods to provide students with year round exposure to the target language, once a week or twice weekly if possible. The complete program spans from three to four years each for the elementary and middle/high school program. By the end of their study, students are expected to achieve conversational and cultural fluency in the target language suited to their age group.
