Woodcock has been a source of environmental and nature education since 1972. The staff, which includes three full-time educators, work with local youth to teach and develop programming designed to instill a love and respect for nature. They work with the local protected wildlife to serve as a resource for educating the community about our natural surroundings through public outreach, school field trips and visits, on-site birthday parties  and our extremely popular summer camp!

Into the Forest
Ages 3-5 with a caregiver
A connection to nature plays a crucial role in a child’s development. Into the Forest brings children (and their caregivers) into nature to help build confidence, obtain basic wilderness skills and most importantly, allow them to get dirty and have fun!
After-School Programs
Woodland Explorers
K – 2nd grade
Investigate and find wonder in the natural world! Through hiking, animal encounters, art, nature activities and more, we’ll discover who shares this earth with us, the important roles they play and how we impact our environment (and we might get a little dirty!).
Woodland Navigators
3rd-5th grade
Spend the afternoon with educator Sam Nunes and explore our preserve! We will focus a lot on how our actions impact our surroundings, and how we can develop a better relationship with the environment. Kids will participate in dam building, aging trees, learning how to use a compass, using colors and objects in nature to create art, and setting up cameras with a GoPro to see if we can capture any local wildlife on camera!
Uncharted Woodcock
6th-8th grade
Ever wonder what’s beyond the trails at Woodcock? Find out as we journey into uncharted territory on Woodcock’s 149-acre preserve! Be prepared to don some waders and venture into our swamp off the boardwalk. We’ll build observational skills by looking for wildlife beyond our trails through tracking and search for hidden biodiversity. All of this will be recorded in nature journals we create on the first day! Students are urged to wear appropriate clothing and hiking boots and bring a reusable water bottle and snack.
Nighttime Wonders
3rd-5th grade
Spend some time in the woods AFTER DARK! This popular program for 3rd-5th graders includes a nighttime hike, animal encounters, fireside treats and unlimited fun.
Nature Painting
6th-8th grade
Join artist and educator Sarah Breznen for an outdoor oil painting course. Participants will learn the basics of oil painting, and how to see space, form, and color in the surrounding landscape. Painting will take place along the pond and wooded trails. During inclement weather we will spend time indoors working on still life paintings of animals and skulls. Spend time in nature and leave inspired with your own canvas masterpieces!
