Spend two weeks at the University of Hartford fostering excellence, artistry, and a love of musical theatre. The Hartt School Community  Division’s Summer Musical Theatre Intensives offer a full-day musical-
theatre training experience for youth, lead by faculty from Broadway and the University, including Music Director Wendy Cavett (current conductor of Broadway’s Hamilton: An American Musical) and Program Director Michelle Murray Fiertek (one of Disney Hollywood Studios’s original Ariels). Master classes, improvisation, singing and dance technique, script analysis, character development, and college audition preparation with University faculty (for high school students) are included, as are professional headshots for all participants. Master classes this year include Hamilton, An American Musical Choreography, where students learn the original choreography from Broadway’s Hamilton, presented by a member of the Broadway creative team (Preprofessional); and Performance Technique Master Class, where students will perform for Broadway actress Janelle Robinson and receive feedback and coaching (Junior).
The Preprofessional program is for students age 14–20, and includes a residential option for those looking to live on campus. The session runs July 9–20, 2018. Applications are due April 6.
The Junior program is for students in grades 4–8. The session runs July 16–27. Applications are due May 18.
Both programs are located on the University of Hartford campus. Classes are held in the beautiful Handel Performing Arts Center in Hartford, Conn. Facilities include five studio spaces, two black-box performance spaces, dressing rooms, and public spaces, all within a two-hour drive of Boston and New York City. Dining halls and dorm residents are located on the main campus, just a five-minute drive away in West Hartford, Conn. Transportation between the two campuses is included.
