Our museum-based programs in art and science – which promote critical thinking, visual literacy and oral express and are offered to children from pre-school to high school – feature inquiry-based learning and hands-on activities with museum objects, with attention paid to varied learning styles. With the Brucemobile we offer an educational outreach program that takes the museum directly to students, giving them the chance to experience and explore right in their classrooms. Programs include Animal AdaptationsButterflies, Desert Ecology, Dinosaurs, Geology, Marine Ecology, Native Americans and Woodland Indians, Prehistoric Peoples, Printmaking, Shapes and Patterns, and Skeletons.
The Neighborhood Collaborative, in its 17th year, offers free bus transportation and educational programs at the Bruce Museum for at-risk children in community centers, after-school programs and Head Start programs and now reaches over 700 children annually. As a part of the Neighborhood Collaborative, the Bruce Museum offers an after-school program for middle-schoolers in Greenwich and surrounding communities.
And our educational programming doesn’t stop at the end of the school year. During the summer we operate the Seaside Center at Greenwich Point, which is staffed every season by Bruce Museum naturalists who offer programming, events and activities designed to educate visitors about the ecology of Long Island Sound and environmental issues, including guided nature activities, arts & crafts, and shoreline seining. Features include a live-animal marine touch tank, aquariums and seashore dioramas.
Whether on-site at the museum or off-site at a school, the art and science programs of the Bruce Museum enrich the entire community.
